Happy Mother’s Day!  I hope you enjoy this wonderful sunny day with your child! 🙂

We had a busy Friday!  We visited the Intermediate School in the morning.  5th grade students guided us around to the different areas and introduced us to the teachers.  We took a brief look at our Jeffers counterparts.  In the afternoon we had a very successful Market Day!  Every classroom in the building came to shop.  The Grand Haven Tribune stopped by and took some photos, too!  On Monday we will count our revenue, subtract our expenses, analyze our business, and contribute to our chosen charity: Save the Catwalk!  Thank you, parents, for all your help with products and commercials!  The students are learning a lot!

Here we are in the Grand Haven Tribune!

This week we wrapped up our unit on lines, rays, and angles in math.  Next week we will begin the unit on geometric shapes and polygons.  This week we finished our literary essays, and next week we will write a literary essay “on demand” as an assessment.  We are learning about different literary elements and devices, or “author tricks,” as we call them.  Ask your child about personification, allusion, similes, and metaphors. I am administering the Fountas and Pinnell reading assessment over the next few weeks to document the amazing growth in reading fluency and comprehension that your child has made this year! On Tuesday we begin the MSTEP testing.  Please be sure your child has a good breakfast and is at school these days.  We will continue MSTEP testing through the 24th.
