Happy Spring Break!  I hope you enjoy your time together whether you are travelling far away or having a “staycation.”  Don’t forget to have your child read and maybe practice a little math too! 🙂

This week in reading we are in the middle of our historical fiction unit and learning how to look for significant passages that will help us build our interpretations.  Some passages just seem like they should be in bold.  We also are being alert to small objects that may have symbolism.  All this work helps us develop an idea about theme that we use as a lens to read the rest of the book.  We talked about thinking about the perspectives of minor characters to help us build theme, and we use our conversations with our book club members to change and adapt our thinking.

In writing we have completed our informational books about the Revolutionary War.  This was a big undertaking! The books will come home after break after we have had a chance to share them with each other.

In math we finished the units on fractions and began studying decimals.  Many students were introduced to this new concept for the first time.  If you have an opportunity to point out decimals in real life situations, please do!  We will wrap up that unit after break.

In social studies we are creating projects that show off our knowledge of the Bill of Rights.  We will finish these projects after break.

We have a few events coming right after break – be sure to check out the Important Dates below.
